Partiendo de los ritmos típicos como el cinco octavos, el trabajo dibuja la cadencia tradicional por medio de elementos sintéticos y electrónicos, en donde se asoma el motivo principal del tema popular “Amor Bonito”, por el cantor Enrique Hidalgo. Más que una versión, o un paralelismo de este tema, es una exploración sonora que propone la reimaginación de dichas líneas rítmicas y melódicas, dentro de un nuevo espacio experimental.

Starting from the typical rhythms such as the five-eighth, the work draws the traditional cadence through synthetic and electronic elements, where the main motif of the popular song "Amor Bonito" by singer Enrique Hidalgo appears. More than a version, or a parallelism of this theme, it is a sound exploration that proposes the reimagining of said rhythmic and melodic lines, within a new experimental space.

Nace en Venezuela, lugar que formó su oído con ritmos coloridos, y donde tuvo oportunidad de cultivar desde muy pequeño el amor por la música que ha acompañado sus exploraciones en la guitarra, el piano y el canto, entre otras disciplinas; pues aunque sus padres le vieron recibirse de ingeniero, su ilusión nunca ha variado: fusionar habilidades propias de todas esas esferas y crear música. Carlos ha participado en distintos proyectos musicales y sonoros que van desde largas horas en la consola y alguna pose de ingeniero-productor, hasta ensayos dedicados a pulir su rol de barítono para ópera. Hoy en día vive su sueño: diseña música y sonido para videojuegos, así como también trabaja en materializar su visión sonora, inspirada ésta en elementos sintéticos y electrónicos, con la impronta del buen jazz y la de ritmos urbanos y tradicionales que ha recolectado en su bitácora musical durante años.

He was born in Venezuela, a place that shaped his ear with colorful rhythms, and where he had from a very young age the opportunity to cultivate a love for music that has accompanied his explorations on the guitar, piano and singing, among other disciplines. Although his parents saw him graduate as an engineer, his aspiration has never changed: to merge skills from all those spheres and create music. Carlos has participated in different musical and sound projects that range from long hours at the console, working in the engineer-producer role, to rehearsals dedicated to polishing his role as baritone for opera. Today he lives his dream: he designs music and sound for video games, as well as working on materializing his sound vision, inspired by synthetic and electronic elements, with the imprint of good jazz and that of urban and traditional rhythms that he has collected in his music blog for years.

Uncle Simón, the sun of the deer, the work songs, the silences of the field and the tunes that were heard from the generation of the grandparents.. They come to the present as a conductive thread of time space that invites dance through the dreamlike spirit of Santa Fuego.

Santa Fuego forma parte esencial de un proyecto colectivo encargado por Ruido/Noise llamado Regreso a Casa. Hay dos componentes principales en este proyecto, un cortometraje que actualmente está terminando su producción, así como una compilación de música con 7 pistas realizadas por un grupo de 11 artistas de la diáspora venezolana. Estas canciones son reinvenciones, traducciones de medios, experiencia y creatividad. Forman una pequeña colección que en conjunto expresa la historia de migración, crecimiento y experiencia de los artistas participantes. Santa Fuego forms an essential part of a collective project that has been commissioned by Ruido/Noise called Regreso a Casa. There are two major components to this project, a short film that is currently finishing up production as well as a music compilation featuring 7 tracks made by a group of 11 artists from the Venezuelan diaspora. These songs are reimaginings, translations of media, experience, and creativity. They form a small collection that together expresses the history of migration, growth, and experience of the participating artists. You can continue to find more in-depth profiles of all our participating artists over the next 6 months here on Ruido/Noise.

Santa Fuego es un proyecto audiovisual que nace de un largo viaje realizado por Latinoamérica, inspirado en las sensaciones del propio camino. Funde naturalmente texturas y sonoridades basadas en la psicodelia, la rítmica de origen negro, nativa, selvática, tropical y Caribe, a través de elementos de la música electrónica e instrumentación orgánica que seducen e invitan mediante experiencias sensoriales al delirio, el baile y sobre todo, a navegar el misterio del mundo Onírico. El sincretismo y la múltiple nacionalidad se congregan como columna vertebral, mezclando las culturas Caribeñas, Andinas, Altiplánicas y sureñas de sus integrantes, manteniendo así presente el espíritu de cada lugar como materia prima. Basados actualmente en Buenos Aires, ciudad que le aporta todo e caracter urbano a los paisajes sonoros.

Santa Fuego is an audiovisual project born from a long journey through Latin America, inspired by the sensations of the journey itself. It naturally fuses textures and sounds based on psychedelia, the rhythm of black, native, jungle, tropical and Caribbean origin, through elements of electronic music and organic instrumentation that seduce and invite through sensory experiences to delirium, dance and above all , to navigate the mystery of the Dream world. Syncretism and multiple nationalities come together as the backbone, mixing the Caribbean, Andean, Altiplanic and southern cultures of its members, thus keeping the spirit of each place present as raw material. Currently based in Buenos Aires, a city that brings all the urban character to soundscapes.

 
 

El viaje

El origen del proyecto fue en el viaje que hicimos por Latinoamérica. El formato con el que nació fue así, itinerante, callejero. Espíritu que todavía se mantiene,nuestra esencia. Tocábamos con las cosas más portables,posibles. Al comienzó,con un Kaoss pad para loopear y para los beats,un cuatro, un amplificador creado para que funcione a pila,y listo.

El formato iba mutando según el sitio,nuestras ganas de jugar y reinventarnos constantemente. Ya sea transformando el repertorio o adquiriendo nuevos instrumentos. En Cali / Colombia fue la adquisición más grande,una tambora colombiana, que se viajó todo y que hasta hoy 2022 acompaña el formato en vivo de la banda. En Ecuador Saxo Tenor , en Perú Trompeta. Y así..

En el camino íbamos viviendo el día a día , de pueblo en pueblo, dándonos el tiempo para experimentar a fondo la idiosincrasia de cada lugar (su comida, su gente,su música). Esto también hizo que eventualmente sumaramos musiques. Por ejm en la selva peruana estuvimos un montón  de tiempo y tocabamos con un amigo afroperuano que conocimos en el lugar y tocaba los tambores con un sazón increíble. 

De alguna manera este viaje es la matriz, y en muchos aspectos la fuente de inspiración tanto para nuestras vidas como para el proyecto,habiéndonos dejado mucho aprendizaje y mucho material,visual, sonoro y sensorial, tesoros que aún hoy en el día utilizamos en forma de samplers o de puntos de partida para nuevas músicas/canciones.

The Trip

The origin of the project was in the trip we made through Latin America. The format with which it was born was like this, itinerant, street. Spirit that still remains, our essence. We played with the most portable things possible. At the beginning, with a Kaoss pad to loop and for the beats, a cuatro, an amplifier created to work with a battery, and that's it.

The format was changing according to the site, our desire to play and constantly reinvent ourselves. Either transforming the repertoire or acquiring new instruments. In Cali / Colombia it was the largest acquisition, a Colombian drummer, who traveled all over and who until today 2022 accompanies the live format of the band. In Ecuador Saxo Tenor, in Peru Trumpet. And so..

Along the way we lived day by day, from town to town, giving ourselves the time to fully experience the idiosyncrasy of each place (its food, its people, its music). This also made us eventually add musiques. For example, in the Peruvian jungle we spent a lot of time and we played with an Afro-Peruvian friend that we met in the place and we played the drums with incredible flavor.

In some way this trip is the matrix, and in many aspects the source of inspiration for both our lives and for the project, having left us a lot of learning and a lot of material, visual, sound and sensory, treasures that we still use today in the form of of samplers or starting points for new music/songs.

Tania Ordoñez

Soltera es un proyecto de danza experimental de la solista colombiana/estadounidense Tania Ordoñez. Ordoñez creció en el Valle de San Fernando, hogar de muchas actuaciones caseras de donde provienen todas sus mayores inspiraciones musicales. Ordoñez comenzó a producir música por su cuenta con sintetizadores y máquinas de percusión prestados por amigos, creando sus propios sonidos y desarrollando el alter ego oscuro y etéreo que ahora se conoce como Soltera.

Ordoñez es una música autodidacta que comenzó a hacer música en 2018. Audiofemme cita: "Musicalmente, Ordoñez fusiona estilos como darkwave y minimal synth con dosis de techno y house y la energía del punk". Su intención es crear música que haga que la gente baile, sane, libere y, en general, una a la comunidad.

Soltera is the experimental dance project of Colombian/American solo artist Tania Ordoñez. Ordoñez grew up in the San Fernando Valley, home to many backyard shows where all of her greatest music inspirations stem from. Ordoñez started producing music on her own with borrowed synthesizers and drum machines from friends creating her own sounds and developing the dark and ethereal alter ego that is now known as Soltera.

Ordoñez is a self taught musician who began making music in 2018. Audiofemme quotes, "Musically, Ordoñez melds styles like darkwave and minimal synth with doses of techno and house and the energy of punk." Her intention is to create music that make people dance, heal, release and overall bring community together.

 

3 influential artists in the current LA music scene

MARAL - AZIZ-E-MAN

Maral is a Los Ángeles  based producer and dj. She makes experimental club music with the use of dub and samples from her collection of Iranian folk, pop and classic music. Maral is a huge inspiration to me. It’s rare to see poc/ femme representation specifically in the noise scene. Maral also collaborates frequently with longtime friend visual artist Annapurna Kumar. The two are a force to be reckoned with! The first time I saw Maral play was in a backyard show we both played at in Highland Park called Seraphim Dream. I remember hearing “Protect U” a track that features Lee “Scratch” Perry, the song had heavy distorted dance beats and this trippy telephone ringing noise. She really takes you on this crazy ride with all the experimental sounds she incorporates. I love that Maral is influenced by many genres such as dub, punk, indie, dance music, ect. You can feel all the influences in the sounds she creates. 

AURAT - RAAT

Aurat is a music group based in LA. The group features lead vocalist, Azeka Kamal, a Pakistani-American, Gil Talbot on production/bass, Nathalie Martin on guitar and Victor Andrade on drums. It was during the beginning of the pandemic that I found out about this band. I was at home scrolling on my phone and I came across this video of them playing a show, it was lit red and Azeka was in the video singing in Urdu, dressed in black from head to toe, beautiful long black hair, dark make up. I was obsessed! It’s predominantly white and male in the “goth” music scene so it was super special to see a South Asian vocalist with Latinx band members taking over. They are also influenced by a range of genres, you can feel it in all of the music they’ve released over the years. Or even when you see them perform live. They have songs that sound more industrial, others post punk, synth punk..all the good shit. 

PRISMESS BEAM - SOULAR PLEXXY

Prismess Beam is a dj and experimental pop artist based in LA. She is influenced by electrónica, house, trip hop, dub. Prismess and I were both in an online streaming event for Coaxial x FemSynthLab. There were a lot of amazing artists on the stream such as Frae Frae: Daughter of Drexicya, ShyGodwin, Bint and more. I really loved Prismess’s set, she played a lot of house music and had these beautiful colorful, galactic blue and pink visuals that would fade in and out throughout her songs. It was a soothing and visually stimulating experience. I later found out that Prismess produces her own music and I got to see her perform at Stellar Remnant for her single  “The Sky is not the Limit” release party. Her sounds are wild and innovative and I love her beats. She really draws you into her own universe.

Slavia

Slavia es un dúo de música experimental de la ciudad de Rosario en Argentina. Formado por Crudo y Carnicero en el año 2021, Crudo recluta a Carnicero para experimentar con los sonidos, extraer pasajes neuronales y desacoples emocionales. En marzo del mismo año, bajo el reglamento de Jeffrey Cáucaso, produjeron un EP llamado "La Potencia Infinita del Vacío" que se reparten en 9 síntomas.

Psicotrópico se grabó en vivo en el estudio Jeffrey Cáucaso. Sintetizadores, guitarras procesadas y controladores midi se unen para llevar al oyente a un viaje. A través de esta sesión podemos tener la experiencia de dicha búsqueda de expandir los sentidos más allá de lo normal. Psicotrópico es acompañado de proyecciones largada por Crudo.

Slavia is an experimental music duo from the city of Rosario in Argentina. Formed by Crudo and Carnicero in the year 2021, Crudo recruits Carnicero to experiment with sounds, extract neural pathways and emotional decoupling. In March of the same year, under the guidance of Jeffrey Cáucaso, they produced an EP called "The Infinite Power of the Void" that is divided into 9 symptoms.

Psicotrópico or “Psychotropic” was recorded live at Jeffrey Cáucaso’s studio. Synths, processed guitars, and midi controllers form together to take the listener on a trip. Through this session we can experience this search to expand the senses beyond the normal. Psicotrópico is accompanied by projections created by Crudo.
